Mysore Day 1

Mysore , India

My first full day in Mysore has passed and I am exhausted… why ??? Well accommodations in Mysore are a bit different than Bangalore, however by Mysore standards the PG ( paying guesthouse) that I am staying at is quite nice. My room , that I share with a fellow yogi, is fully equipped with a bed, mattress and pillow, no its not Sealy , think wood plank. The toilet is western - meaning its not just a hole in the ground- thank god , I really don’t need to be working my quads anymore. The shower is a bucket with a cup and cold water which you heat with a coil that is plugged into the wall. I used this for the first time today and was petrified that I would get SHOCKED! I survived. I made it through my first night in the room only to be awaken at 4am by an itching sensation on my arm and then my leg and then my hip and then a loud buzzing in my ear, I jumped up to shoo the mosquito away and then noticed the lizard on the wall and the ants on the ground! Not the best alarm clock but it certainly worked, I was up for the next 2 hours moving around to keep the flying monsters from sucking my blood and potentially giving me malaria! Since I didn’t learn about the coil heating mechanism until later today, I skipped a morning bath and headed to Pranayama class to practice some breathing excercises and hoped to not full asleep. After an hour of breathwork I felt like buzzed , seriously why waste money and alcohol and drugs when you have your BREATH! The buzz did make for a restless relaxation though so the next hour was quite challenging and as the teacher walked us through a total body relaxation starting at the toes, all I could hope for is that he would get to the crown as quick as possible . The hour seemed like 10 , class ended and my new roommate and I headed to Mahesh’s restaurant for a local south Indian breakfast : dosa , sambar and chai. Then I went straight to the store and stocked up on Good Nite mosquito repellant , mosquito repellant lotion and mosquito repellant incense! The remainder of the day consisted of chatting with the foreigners, shopping in the local market where I practiced my hindi, bargained , and tried to convince people that I am really INDIAN …. And then back to Mahesh’s local restaurant for dinner ! Obviously we foreigners love Mahesh’s restaurant . The cool thing about the PG I stay in is that there are other locals staying here , a group of 5 girls, some in school and some working . They are super nice and make for nice conversation. That’s the one thing that India can definitely pride on … being welcoming . I love my India !
Its time to put my ammunition to work against the flying monsters. Good night .
