Yoga...Farmers Market... and more

It is now day 9 in Mysore and I have been on the yoga bootcamp regimen for 6 days now. It has NOT gotten easier. Everyday is like groundhog day , wake up at 6 30... quick rinse ... dress and head to yoga practice....class from 7:15 to 9 of the primary series practice with a lot of emphasis on Hamstrings (atleast for me ) ... my favorite pose, the one I completely dread but need to do is Parsarittha Padottanasana A B C D ... now not only do i have to do this pose 1 time but just my like there are 4 , yes 4 variations !!! After class there is an hour of pranayama and even today on my 6th day of practice, my legs still fell asleep. I have learned it is due to my tight hips which also cause my stiff knee and tight hamstrings and ankles... geeze can the hips just release already! Class consists of a lot of snap, crackle, pops from various bodies. Yoga is one of the few times you will be thankful for these pops because it means your work is paying off . The best part of the day is breakfast which happens around 11:30 am... I head to Mahesh Prasad for Idli , but just my luck no idli today . So day 6 and my body is still moving but definitely feeling a bit broken and abused ... the teacher says the work will pay off next week ... I shall see. Until then I continue to dread the much needed hamstring openers ... I guess thats what happens when you live in a society that promotes sitting sitting and more sitting ... you end up with tight hamstrings.Moving on to life in Mysore ... Farmers Markets are no special treats here because everyday is a farmers market ... not many homes, including the house I stay in, include a refrigerator. So every day fresh fruits and veggies are purchased and cooked and you prepare just enough so there are limited left overs. Its actually the healthiest way to eat. Each morning men and women walk out of their homes and to the nearest corner where they can buy there ingredients . I walked by a small corner fruit and veggie stall and purchased some bananas which are still hanging from the tree stem ! Talk about fresh. If you want fresh food , mysore is defrinitely the place to be. You get fresh milk from the cow down the street, fresh cocounuts from the coconut seller on every corner, fresh fruits and veggies , even fresh flowers to dress your hair with ! Sometimes it feels like another century and then a big truck drives by and pollutes the air that I breathe and I come back to reality .On a personal note, finally had a chance to do some laundry and it only took two buckets and serious arm power to wring out the clothes. :)Finally a day off tomorrow.
