Wow… another action packed weekend winding down. As the cofounder of Nutritionize! And a nutrition, health and wellness fanatic I was excited to have the body fat dunk truck out in Milpitas to test people’s body fat, including mine. Hydrostatic testing is one of the most accurate tests because bone, and lean mass sinks and fat floats, this weight combined with your land weight determines your body fat %. It has been a year since my last test at which point I was at 21%, not bad but not great. I had been doing crossfit for a year at that time and continuing my yoga practice and felt good but knew I could decrease my body fat a bit to increase performance and feel great! So the only thing that changed in a year was my nutrition. I had become nutrition certified and along with educating others about proper nutrition I was also revamping my own lifestyle. After one year my land weight remains the same however I feel great and my athletic performance has drastically improved and my body fat… drum roll please… is now at 15.5%!!! I was shocked and even doubtful however Aeron, from fitness wave says it’s completely accurate. So, needless to say this corroborates my belief in Nutrition being a key driver in optimal health and wellness! Looking forward to the next test! On to Saturday and the NorCal Crossfit Sectionals where I witnessed some amazing athletes and friends achieve amazing scores in some very challenging events… 800 meter runs and overhead squats! Thrusters, kb swings, and chest to bar pull ups!!!

Sounds crazy but completely doable and not only did these athletes do it but they killed it! For those of you that know me and have practiced yoga with me also know how much I love being active and trying out new things. 2 years ago I was introduced to Crossfit at Milpitas Health and Fitness; I was a bit hesitant of another weightlifting type program that is boring and bulky. After 2 years I am an approved member of the cult and absolutely addicted to Crossfit. It is more than just a workout; it is a sport and science that promotes health, wellbeing, community, and results! Many people question how I could be a yogi and then do something that involves weights and competition and intensity. My response… yoga is my solace, it is my time and space to work inwards, crossfit is my workout when interweaved with some running, biking, hiking, and dancing, I feel alive and well! If you are ever interested or curious come find me at crossfitunlimited.

No better way to end a long day than with some drumming and music! I joined other yogis and non yogis at a drum circle in Willow Glen to learn the art of drumming. I am not a drummer but once you are surrounded by the rhythm your fingers feel the dance and perform without thinking. It’s an amazing feeling. The vibrations run through you and activate the body, mind, breath and spirit. My hands began to tingle from the drumming; I could tell the blood was flowing. As I grow in my Qi gong practice, I am beginning to feel the internal energy in everything I do. It is an amazing experience to feel connected even if for a split second! Positivity attracts positivity … Thanks to Heather for leading such an awesome group!
