When does it all begin...

I was dripping sweat moving from one pose to another and observing my mind fluctuate to and from thoughts. Things were definitely shifting and moving today, and my body did not hold back from letting me know. There was a huge pop in twisted prayer squat followed by a surge of energy flowing to my hips. That was the beginning of some deep work that was to follow. As I sunk into an intense frog pose I could feel my body wanting to resist and right when I hit my edge these words entered my ears and resonated throughout my body "The pose begins when you want to get out" , I repeated the words a few times in my head and realized how true they were both on and off the mat.

So often we find ourselves in tough situations whether alone or with others and at some point we all may have experienced a sense of walking away. It was too tough to stay but little did we know that it was just the beginning. These times in our lives when it feels like everything is falling apart or out of control, when things are not working, there is lonliness and defeat, these are the times that transform us. Working through the hard times is when "life" really begins.

On the mat, you feel like resting in childs pose after some intense work, off the mat its okay to take a break but realize that no matter how long or short the break the work will always be there. No matter how much the title of the pose changes the work will always be there. The work is just the beginning of evolving into something strong and beautiful.

The next time you are faced with a challenging situation try to stay with the experience, deepen the breath, and work through it. It is this time that will change the rest of your life.
