The Human Ribbon
Short and sweet post before I head out for my ride down to LA. One of the biggest lessons I have learned over my last 5 months of training is this: eat before you are hungry, drink before you are thirsty. DUH! Yes, it seems like a no brainer but when life gets busy, training gets longer, and you get lazy, this simple rule gets pushed to the back burner.
Today was day 0, orientation day of the ride, which meant a lot of running around to complete a safety video, sign off a medical waiver, check in, shop (of course), etc etc. Point being we were on the go and soon enough my friends and I were snapping eat each other, rolling eyes, and expressing crankiness. We needed food. This is one lesson that I learn over and over again, EAT! And eat before you are hungry. I will have to exercise it more during the ride.
On another note, I packed all night, it poured all day, and I tried to stuff all my 1week's worth of gear in a bag that I usually take on my month long travels... it didn't fit. Needless to say yet another trip was made to REI to purchase a bag. All my gear is safe and sound and packed away.
Less than 7 hours away until ride out... eeek! and excited! My AIDS/Lifecyle riders, see you all bright and early to conquer this 7 day adventure! And congratulations to the organizations for being the largest fundraiser for HIV/AIDS in the ENTIRE WORLD!
