Slow start out of SF covered from head to toe in rain gear, 5 miles into it the sun broke out and my rain jacket was filling with perspiration. What to do with all these clothes? I stripped them off and stuffed them in the back of my shorts and around my waist. The first 40 miles were all nerves. I wasn't very talkative and the mind madness was kicking in... "what the hell are you doing?" "Just turn around now." The mind is such a funny thing. After telling it to shut up, I continued riding and made it to lunch. Met the rest of EFI at lunch and finished the day strong. 80 miles down. Got to camp in Santa Cruz and pitched my first tent! Took a deep breath and sighed out the day... right when I thought I was feeling good... the sky broke out in tears...it was raining. That's when I knew I just have to take this one day at a time... 6 more days to go...
